Today, we had the honour of presenting the prestigious JGP Merit Award to the most promising Geotechnics student from Plymouth University, as part of the BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering degree. This year’s deserving recipient of the award is Sam Medlyn, and the accolade was presented by Matthew Owen during a small, celebratory event.
Sam, currently in his second year of the MEng Civil and Coastal Engineering programme at the University of Plymouth, has demonstrated exceptional dedication and potential in his studies, making him a standout candidate for this award. His academic achievements, combined with a proactive approach to industry engagement, highlight his readiness for a successful career in civil engineering. Starting in July, Sam will embark on a highly anticipated placement year with Aecom, where he will gain valuable industry experience and broaden his technical knowledge before returning to complete his final year of study.
We were also delighted to welcome Dr Ed Ellis, who accompanied Sam to our office for the award presentation. Dr Ellis is a valued member of the University of Plymouth faculty, and it was a pleasure to have him with us for the occasion. His visit provided a great opportunity for our former Plymouth University graduates to reconnect and reminisce about their own journeys into the industry.
At JGP, we are proud to support and celebrate emerging talent in the field of civil engineering, and we look forward to following Sam’s career as he continues to excel. Congratulations again to Sam Medlyn on receiving the JGP Merit Award, and we wish him every success in his upcoming placement and future studies.
