Expert Geotechnical Assessments for Quarries

JGP’s experienced geotechnical team provide appraisals and geotechnical assessments of both active and disused quarries.

Active Quarries

In accordance with the Health and Safety Commission – Quarries Regulations 1999, active quarries should have an appraisal to assess safety risks from the excavations, tips or lagoons. Where significant risks are identified, these require a Geotechnical Assessment by a geotechnical specialist to identity and fully assess all factors liable to affect the stability and safety of the quarry operations. JGP’s experienced geologists provide geotechnical assessments, which must be carried out at least biennially or when there have been any significant changes in the operations or hazards, or the geology or hydrology.

JGP also offers a wide range of other civil, geotechnical and environmental services for a number of quarries, including slope stability assessments and design, haulage roads, embankments, temporary works, infrastructure and environmental assessments.

Disused Quarries

JGP can provide an extensive range of services assessing abandoned quarries prior to their redevelopment, or the surveying and management of former quarry faces adjacent to existing developments. We also undertake assessments on geological Special Sites of Scientific Interest (gSSSIs) and Regionally Important Geological and Geomorphological Sites (RIGS) to ensure new developments will not adversely affect the designation.
